Eco Phones: Mobile Phone Launches Its Environmental Protection Efforts

Eco-friendliness is becoming a huge factor in consumer decision making.  Whether it’s because of genuine desire to help the environment or just another trend worthy of praise, people look at gadgets differently now.  Mobile phone launches its contribution to the environment.  From a sustainable source of energy to environmental protection through recycling, the phone industry is setting up its game.  Here are some eco phones out in the market.

Samsung Replenish
The Samsung Replenish boasts to be one of the greenest phones in the market.  When I say greenest I mean eco-friendly.  34% of the phone is made of recycled material.  Moreover, as much as 87% of this android phone can be recycled.  Unfortunately this phone has relatively lo specs.  The screen is just 320x240 pixels, the camera is just 2MP (though this is still quite useable).

Samsung Blue Earth
The Samspung Blue Earth is another top phone when it comes to eco-friendliness.  It’s shell is composed of recycled materials mainly old plastic bottles.  But what sets this phone apart is the solar panel cells at the back.  This way you can charge the phone via the sun’s free solar rays.  Something eco-enthusiasts will love.  Although it comes with a standard wall charger capability, the solar panel can help you save up and charge at no cost.

Sony Ericsson Hazel
This mobile phone is part of Sony Ericssons’ GreenHeart Portfolio.  As such, you can expect eco-friendly features.  For one, the body of the Sony Ericsson Hazel is made of recycled water bottles and CD’s.  Water-base paint instead of the usual solvent-based paint is used for this phone.  Moreover, they replaced the usual hard copy of the user manual with an e-copy version.  Packaging is also made smaller so less materials are used.

Obviously there is a continuing effort from mobile phone companies to produce products that address environmental protection.  With the continued pressure in different sectors, we can expect improvements in the materials used, energy usage and of course in information dissemination.
